| Jan Vokoun was born in 1956 in the town Rychnov nad Kněžnou. However, he spent most of his childhood in the town where he lives now, in Třebechovice p.O. | ||||
| He inherited the relationship to wood-processing from his ancestors. He started carving little pieces like wooden jewellery and gradually he continued carving bigger pieces like marionettes and nativity scenes. He works mostly with linden wood. He has had his work exhibited in several plates in the Czech republic; his work can also be seen not only in European counties and the USA, but also in Japan, South Korea and Columbia. During the main tourist season he performs the art of woodcarving in the exhibition hall of the Třebechovice Museum of NativityScenes. | ||||
| Wooden marionettes range among the original gifts made of natural materials. They are popular decoration not only in the children’s rooms, they can become an artistic set-off of any interior room. The importance of marionettes is confirmed by children’s psychologists, logopaedics specialists and other education specialists. When playing with marionettes, children may develop their speech, imagination, rhetoric and manual abilities. Every carved marionette is an original pieces, it is made on the basis of agreement with the client. Common sizes of marionettes are from 30 to 70 cm. A whole collection of marionettes may be ordered, too. | ||||
| During the Christmas season, the nativity scenes have been slowly returning to our homes. They used to be a natural part of Christmas season celebration for many generations. So called „standing nativity scenes“ may be ordered, for which one can buy and add figurines gradually; thus the holy family may be gradually enriched by shepherds, the three kings procession and mainly by various characters carrying grifts, which exist in endless types. Every woodcarver specialised in nativity scenes would tell you the same – to work on such a nativity scenes is endless. It is a pity one’s hands are not sufficient to make what one’s mind is able to think of. In the same way as with the marionettes, individual nativity scenes figurines and whole sets may be ordered after the proposal is approved by the client; common sizes of the figurines are from 12 to 25 cm. | ||||
| Apart from the above mentioned, plastic art pieces, basis for hunting trophies, wooden jewellery and other woodcarving products may be ordered. | ||||
